44 Scotland Street Redux

by chimpden on May 28, 2010

I’m beyond pleased to see that Alexander McCall Smith has another instalment in the lovely “44 Scotland Street” series coming out. McCall Smith had previously implied that he would be shelving “44″ to work on other things, most notably a new series set in Pimlico that kicked off with “Corduroy Mansions.” If you aren’t familiar with it, the series follows a revolving cast of characters through their daily lives in Edinburgh, and abounds with wit, bonhomie and charm. It was clearly inspired by Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of the City”, but as much as I admire Maupin, I find McCall Smith’s books much more engaging. The newest, “The Importance of Being Seven: 44 Scotland Street,” ships in July.
