Birthday

by chimpden on June 30, 2007

I had a birthday recently. We didn’t have a big celebration, but I wouldn’t have liked it nearly as much if we did. I’m not much for large groups of people (or even small ones, for that matter). “We,” in case you are wondering, consists of my six-year old son and my wife of nine years (I will call her J in this blog, and will refer to my son as M).

You would undoubtedly like J. She smiles frequently, has an engaging sense of humour and puts up with my considerable foibles. She exudes warmth, is drop-dead smart, and is more than snarky enough to make her exceedingly interesting. I am biased, but you will have to trust me. I am not introducing you.

Not that you asked, but my idea of a good time on my birthday (which fell on a weekend) consisted of:

1 – turning off all work-related communication devices;
2 – reading wall to wall coverage of the iPhone launch in the blogosphere (I have a huge weakness for gadgets of any stripe, and this is the mother of all gadget launches);
3 – eating whatever I wanted while consuming copious quantities of cappuccino and coca-cola;
4 – taking a bath and ploughing through a big chunk of an enjoyable mystery that’s been my tube reading over the last few days, Peter Robinson’s Piece of My Heart;
5- watching a previously recorded episode of Boston Legal. Seeing the gorgeous Candice Bergen (will someone please, for the love of god, bring back Murphy Brown in reruns?), the gloriously-inflated-and-not-giving-a-damn William Shatner, and the oddly turtle-like James Spader play off each other in this show makes me happy every time I see it;
6- finishing the evening off with cognac and chocolate, listening to A Love Supreme.

I am new to blogging, but I’ve come to understand that I should put links to stuff I like in the right-hand margin of the page. I have put a few favourites in for now. Let me know what you think. Unless you don’t like them.
