Moving House

Paris DoorMy family and I will be moving house later this summer. We’ve moved frequently in the past decade, and it’s a task I approach with a mixture of anticipation and dread. At least this time the distance is small. Our last move involved crossing the Atlantic, but this time we will only be moving to another part of London. To be more specific, we will move from a horrifically expensive part of the city to a merely nauseatingly expensive part. The idea is to be cash-flow positive over the coming year. We shall see.

We spent part of the weekend looking at flats (the ones we saw were cringe inducing, for the most part) and registering with estate agents in the neighborhood we’re targeting–Fulham. To say the process is inefficient would be an understatement. London agents do not share listings for the most part, so you must register at every office in the neighborhood, then pray that one of them will have a listing that meets your needs before your move date. Why the public doesn’t demand better service, I can’t imagine. But that is the system, and so we are proceeding apace.
